Haffner's Turf Moor: Burnley Cricket Club announces ground naming partnership

Burnley Cricket Club is proud to announce that its home ground will now be known as Haffner's Turf Moor, following a new sponsorship partnership with one of Burnley's most treasured names.

The club was formed in 1833 and has called Turf Moor home since 1843, a full decade before Burnley Football Club arrived next door. Haffner's has been serving the town since 1889, when George Kristian Haffner opened his first pork butcher's shop on Yorkshire Street. Between these two Burnley names sits nearly 350 years of history in the town.

The ground will be officially known as Haffner's Turf Moor, or The Haffner's Turf Moor Cricket Ground, from the 2026 season.

Dave Lawson, Chairman of Burnley Cricket Club, said: "Haffner's is one of those names that is simply part of what Burnley is. Everyone in this town knows them, everyone has grown up with their pies. Having their name on our ground feels right. It is two Burnley institutions backing each other, and we are proud to have them with us."

Ted Cockett, Co-Owner of Haffner's, said: "Burnley Cricket Club has been at the heart of this town for nearly 200 years. When the opportunity came to put the Haffner's name on that ground, it was not a difficult decision. We are a Burnley business and we want to back Burnley. You do not find a bigger part of this town's sporting and community life than this club."

The partnership supports the club across all of its activity, from the 1st XI's pursuit of further Lancashire League honours to the women's section, the junior teams, and the broader community that calls Haffner's Turf Moor home throughout the year.

Haffner's, the family butchers and pie makers now in the care of brothers Dean and Ted Cockett, have been a cornerstone of Burnley's food culture for 136 years. Their bakery on Marlborough Street and shop on Keirby Walk remain as busy as ever, built on the same experienced team and the same commitment to quality that has kept Burnley coming back for generations. Everything is still handmade. Nothing has changed except the name above the door.

For Burnley Cricket Club, it has been a golden period of sustained success on the pitch in recent years. The 2024 Lancashire League championship was the club’s nineteenth in total and fifth in just nine years. Meanwhile, the thriving junior section continues to produce county and league representatives, all hoping to follow in the footsteps of the town’s most successful ever sportsman, Sir James Anderson, who learned his craft at Burnley CC.
