a note from the chairman of the junior section

Burnley CC has a great history of producing top quality players. Michael Brown, Jonathon and Mark Harvey, David Brown, Jonathan Clare and of course England’s James Anderson have all recently come through the Junior ranks here at Burnley. These are exciting times for all players and members of Burnley CC but we need your continued support.

In conjunction with the Lancashire Cricket Board (LCB) we operate within the guidance of the “player pathway”, a cricketing journey that can take talented players as far as they want to go. Club cricket at Burnley is followed by District cricket, a town team comprising players from all local clubs.

"What I can promise parents and young players here is that if I or any of my coaches believe a player is capable of nomination for any representative side then this club will nominate them."

Steve Brunt, Junior Chairman

The LCB also run an U16s “Lancashire Festival” where selected players represent regional areas of the county in both 1 and 2 day games. Again Burnley CC has a number of nominees whose names have been put forward for these games. The next step up is then Full County Cricket, to represent Lancashire County Cricket Club, and it is the aim of all at Burnley CC to ensure our better players are given the chance to impress the County officials. What I can promise parents and young players here is that if I or any of my coaches believe a player is capable of nomination for any representative side than this club will nominate them.

Junior Membership this season is priced at £35 per year for all players aged 15yrs and under. The intermediate playing membership fee for players 16yrs and over but in full time education is £40 per year. If membership is not paid by the end of May then we will be unable to consider the youngster for selection.

All our coaches are CRB cleared to enable them to work with young people, and in addition all are qualified to provide First Aid. All coaches are accredited through the ECB (English Cricket Board) Coaches Association. We also, in Wendy Harveyand Fiona Hadfield have child protection / welfare officers here.

Practice nights will be held on Tuesdays and continue right throughout the season running from approximately 6:30pm – 8pm each Tuesday. Players should register at the clubhouse at 6.15pm and must give their name to the person taking details. A nominal charge of £3 per child is made with all monies collected going straight back into the junior section. If a child has not registered they will not be able to participate in the session.

It is imperative that children, parents and all other spectators adhere to the Club's Code of Conduct at all times both in practice sessions and in competitive games.

We are determined to develop your children into the best cricketers they can be as well as offering, most importantly, plenty of fun along the way.

Burnley Cricket Club has a fantastic reputation in developing talent and not just into our first team but also into first class cricket and beyond including players such as: Michael Brown, David Brown, Jonathon Harvey, Mark Harvey, Vishal Tripathi, Jonathan Clare and of course the all time leading wicket taker for England, James Anderson.

To help assist with this, we always require more helpers in either assisting on practice nights or helping out by becoming a Team Manager.  Please get in touch with me if you are willing to help us (regardless of your cricketing experience), as I believe you will really enjoy being part of our team and I am sure that you will find it very rewarding. I will be contacting you again before the start of the season to inform you of training sessions and key pre-season dates for both girls and boys.

All the best for the season.

Kind regards,

Steve Brunt
