GIRLS' NEWS

A WONDERFUL TEAM EFFORT!

Congratulations to Burnley’s girls’ cricket team on their fantastic win on Saturday 26th June at Clitheroe Cricket Club. Taking part in the inaugural competition the girls faced stiff competition from Ramsbottom, Winstanley Park and Clitheroe Cobras. A combined effort of outstanding bowling, agile fielding, and fine stroke play, saw the girls triumph in all three of their matches. In a closely fought final against Clitheroe Cobras, a real team effort, under the impressive captaincy of Samiya Rahman, saw the team to victory. Congratulations to all the girls – you were a credit to yourselves, your parents and Burnley Cricket Club. Team: Elicia Brown, Lauren Brown, Ramisha Fatima, Hannah Farrar, Olivia Naughton, Tanisha Rahman, Samiya Rahman, Aimee Robinson.

Burnley Under 11s v Bacup, 22nd April 2010, Report by Mandy Lawson

Burnley lost the toss and were put in to bat against Bacup, hoping to start a promising Cup run. Marley Byrne and Josh Kilbride opened the innings, yet despite a couple of fours and some singles, had their wickets taken quickly. Max Robinson and Henry Jones worked well in their partnership, with Robinson scoring an important four and a couple of singles, backed up by good running between the wickets. Tom Lawson made an immediate impact, opening with a six and nearly knocked the umpire’s head off with a powerful straight drive! Sam Molloy was run off his feet in his attempts to make sure he and Tom were not run out. The final partnership of Ben Uttley and Chad Sealey scored a four and six respectively along with some great singles. Burnley posted a total of 259 runs. In the Bacup innings wickets were taken by Tom Lawson (2) Chad Sealey, Marley Byrne and Henry Jones. A fantastic catch was held by Josh Kilbride and an outstanding direct throw by Chad Sealey resulted in a run out.

A brilliant first game, with a great team effort and spirit and we're through to the next round of the Cup!
